  1. Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted (Mt 27:15).  Hail Mary…
  2. And they had then a notorious prisoner, called Barabbas (Mt 27:16).  Hail Mary…
  3. The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?”  And they said, “Barabbas” (Mt 27:21).  Hail Mary…
  4. Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?”  They all said, “Let him be crucified” (Mt 27:22).  Hail Mary…
  5. So when Pilate saw he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd (Mt 27:24).  Hail Mary…
  6. [Pilate said], “I am innocent of this righteous man’s blood; see to it yourselves” (Mt 27:24).  Hail Mary…
  7. And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” (Mt 27:25).  Hail Mary…

The Fifth Sorrowful Mystery: The Crucifixion

  1. And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left (Lk 23:33).  Hail Mary…
  2. And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Lk 23:34).  Hail Mary…
  3. One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ?  Save yourself and us!”  (Lk 23:39).  Hail Mary…
  4. But the other rebuked him….  And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingly power” (Lk 23:40, 42).  Hail Mary…
  5. And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Lk 23:43).  Hail Mary…
  6. When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!”  Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!”  (Jn 19:26-27).  Hail Mary…
  7. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, … “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Mt 27:46).  Hail Mary…
  8. After this Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the scripture), “I thirst” (Jn 19:28).  Hail Mary…
  9. So they put a sponge full of vinegar on hyssop and held it to his mouth.  When Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, “It is finished” (Jn 19:29-30).  Hail Mary…
  10. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!”  And having said this he breathed his last (Lk 23:46).  Hail Mary…
